Background
I've been teaching bass since 1995 both privately and in colleges
and music schools. I teach students from all levels, from
total beginners to advanced players studying for a degree
and even professionals who need to fill in some 'gaps'. I
am generally very flexible when it comes to finding a suitable
lesson time
Topics
Working as a professional bass player for over 10 years I have performed in many musical situations covering styles as diverse as Pop, Rock, Jazz, Funk, Latin, African and Soul. This experience enables me to teach students from all different backgrounds be it Nu Metal, Pop, 70's Funk, or Straight ahead jazz...
I always aim to teach what is right for the individual; students have very different skills, preferences and potential, so an individual approach will always get the best results. I don't stick to a rigid way of teaching, it all depends on what your goals are and which areas of your playing you want to improve. |
Generally, I encourage pupils to work on basic building blocks of music: technique, scales, constructing bass lines, and rhythm. But most importantly, I'll always spend time on explaining how to apply the various concepts covered in the lessons. My goal is not just to teach you technique or theory but also to prepare you for real-life musical situations and help you become the best player you can be.
Other topics covered can include: reading, ear-training, slapping, rhythm studies, improvising, advanced harmony, walking bass lines or any songs you would like to learn. I have my own set up of amps, sequencer and a 4track to record some of the things covered in the lesson.
Costs
